Acer palmatum 'Sonkootgre' GOING GREEN® Japanese maple

Van Son & Koot Holding B.V. is one of the largest nurseries growing a great number of Japanese maple varieties. In 2007 they won Silver Medal at Plantarium with their own finding called Marlo. And since they grow more plant species, not just maples, you may know their other successful plants such as Magic Marlot® skimmia or Soft Caress® mahonia.

GOING GREEN® Japanese maple is a great variety of understated beauty. At the first sight it may look common but looking further you will notice its compact statue, dense branching of the crown combined with strong, upright stems and pure green colour like freshly emerging grass. Not only of its leaves but also twigs and trunks. Clean beauty. Ideal for combination with other richly coloured maples or as a specimen plant whose leaves in autumn bursts out with a firework of fiery colours - golden, orange, scarlet, and crimson red. They are deciduous, palmate, 5-7 lobed, not dissected. GOING GREEN® is slender, compact, and not very tall (2-3m). Bred by Van Son & Koot and registered in Europe in 2013 as EU40460.

Japanese maples need constantly moist soil that has to be well-drained, acidic to neutral, and medium fertile. Keep it mulched all year round. It loves a location with high air humidity, e.g. at a river bank or near a pond but it is not a must. GOING GREEN® loves full sun and grows well in partial shade, too. It is very hardy once its wood has hardened and withstands temperatures down to -29°C (USDA zone 5), and also suitable for outdoor pots, just keep it moist without a saucer.
