Yarrow is a lovely perennial ideal for dry and neglected locations. This variety is called Schneetaler which can be translated as ‘Snow Taler’ and refers to a popular German Christmas cookie type: almond-based pastry formed to rounded or oval (nowadays also star-shaped) cookies glued with jam or marmalade and snow-covered with powdered white sugar.Description of the plant:
Schneetaler yarrow produces medium tall stems reaching about 60 cm tall, topped with almost flat corymbs composed of snow-white flowers. They come out from mid to late June and re-bloom until September. The plant makes an upright tuft with strong stems which do not open sideways. Fragrant, fern-like leaves are finely cut and rich grass green, basal leaves are larger than stem leaves. Once the main flowering has finished you can cut off the stems to encourage new growths and late summer flowering but it is not necessary. Yarrow is a maintenance-free perennial suitable for standard flower beds as well as dry slopes and rockeries. It tolerates a wide range of soils except for boggy and wet. Full sun is needed for profuse flowering. Fully hardy to -40°C (USDA zone 3).
