Elizabeth MacGregor is a very active grower and breeder who, along with her husband Alasdair and son John, sun a small nursery in Galloway in Scotland. In 2001 they found a chance seedling of Asian species anemone rupicola, naturally found on mountains and cliffs of southern Afghanistan and southwestern China, 2700-4300m above sea level. It is probably a natural hybrid with anemone hupehensis which contributed with stronger hardiness and longer flowering.Description of the plant:
WILD SWAN™ is a fantastic hybrid anemone producing large, white flowers, decorated with a wide, smoky violet stripe on the sepals reverse. It has a unique flowering time - from late May until autumn, often early November. Basal leaves are deciduous, palmate, dark green, sharply toothed, sparsely hairy beneath. Even young plants flower abundantly and form bushy clumps. Overall height is about 40 cm with flowers, or 30 cm without, exceptionally 60 cm in too fertile soil.Japanese anemones like moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. When planted in full sun and if you live in area with cold winters make sure the plants are well mulched to keep the roots cool and away from dry frost. Hardiness has not been observed under all possible conditions, but is guaranteed to min. -25°C (USDA zone 5b-6) and expected to go yet a little lower.
