White birch is a native tree of Siberia and Russia, that's why you can see so many of them in Russian movies and fairy tales. Its second name pendula refers to weeping ends of its long branches on the species and other tall varieties, it does not mean that all betula pendula trees are typically weeping. Moreover, there are even dwarf, non-weeping varieties such as this one.
Description of the plant:
MAGICAL® GLOBE is a dwarf selection of European white birch. It comes from Australia where it is called Lollipop Birch. Its makes stiff, strong, slow growing branches with very handsome, fresh green, glossy foliage. Especially after the rain it glitters like a green diamond. Naturally it forms an almost spherical shrub or crown if grafted on a stem.

It was found as a natural mutation in Melbourne, Australia, by Colin James from JFT Nurseries in 1990. The funny Australian name Lollipop Birch as well as its dwarf habit and lush foligae soon made it a sought-after item for small gardens. It was brought to Europe and USA by Kolster Holding B.V. from the Netherlands who patented it as 'Globe' in 2011 (PP23610).

European white birch likes moist soil but is widely adaptable and will grow almost anywhere - when established it can even cope with long, dry summers. MAGICAL® GLOBE is fully hardy to min. -40°C (USDA zone 3) and suitable for larger outdoor pots.
