Description of the plant:
Plumosa Compressa is another beauty in Sawara cypress group. It is an evergreen conifer with mounded, cushion-like growth, and with a little bit of imagination it can be mistaken for moss. However, it has a tell – the tips of branches are always lighter than the rest of the shrub, when they emerge and in autumn they are almost white. Plumosa Compressa grows very slowly, making only a few centimeters per year. It will be beautiful in small gardens and front yards as well as in borders with dwarf conifers and small-leaved evergreens, combined with attractive perennials of small sizes. Cushion-like plants make a nice display in a sunny rockery, surrounded by either brown mulch or light grey gravel.
Sawara cypress prefers moist, slightly acidic soil but is adaptable to almost all types of soil. It can take strong frosts but dislikes extremely hot summers in dry soils. No pruning necessary. Fully hardy to -34°C (USDA zone 4).
