Cotoneaster lacteus Parney’s cotoneaster

Parney’s cotoneaster is an evergreen shrub or small tree with arching branches. It has ovate, up to 5 cm long leaves which remain evergreen in mild winters, and turn red in countries of zone 6 in autumn, whereas in warmer zones they are green all year round with only a few golden yellow and red leaves.

In early summer it produces abundance of tiny, milky white flowers in pending cymes which are followed by rich red berries in autumn. They are not edible for humans but attractive for birds.

Parney’s cotoneaster is a moderate grower that can be pruned in any manner at almost any time. Older plants can take hard pruning if you need to rejuvenate that plant. It has no specific soil needs, it can withstand drought once established. Grow them in sun or partial shade. Hardy to about -24°C (USDA zone 6).
