Description of the plant:
Larkspur is a favourite perennial where varieties with blue flowers are most popular. Such as this dwarf one which belongs to Belladona group of delphinium. It makes upto 70 cm long stems with deep indigo blue flowers. We suggest staking the stems to prevent damage by wind or heavy rain. Thinning is recommended for best results – in spring when the new shoots are about 7 cm tall leave only 3 shoots on young plants and max. 7 shoots on strong plants to encourage only strong growths. The name delphinium was used to describe the shape of the flower bud which looks like a dolphin (rather fat one). The plant contains toxin which may cause severe discomfort if ingested. Fully hardy to min. -27°C (USDA zone 5). Last update 15-06-2008.
