Description of the plant:
Pink snowdrop tree is a small tree from North Carolina and Arkansas in the USA. It is quite rare in Europe and thanks to its difficult transplanting it will probably remain hard to find yet for some time.Pink snowdrop tree produces small, bright pink, bell-shaped flowers in late April and early May. Their colour may fade gradually to almost white. In early autumn 4-winged, brown fruit is formed. Deciduous leaves are broadly elliptic or obovate, mid green in summer and yellow in autumn. Also interesting is its steel-grey bark with creamy striping which changes to heavy furrows in maturity.
It grows moderately to fast, spreading with horizontal branches. Mature trees make a widely conical crown shape with rounded top. It likes neutral to slightly acid, fertile, evenly moist soil that is best kept cool by underplanting with species demanding the same soil conditions. Pruning is possible in early spring. Hardy to about -29°C (USDA zone 5).
