x Heucherella is a hybrid perennial first bred by Emile Lemoine in France in 1912. It is a cross between coral bells (heuchera) and foam flower (tiarella). So it made sense to have combined these common names into foamy bells, how uncanny!
Description of the plant:
Golden Zebra is a foamy bells variety producing attractive leaves combining two distinctly different colours. In spring their margins are bright golden yellow while centres are dark brick red, and in summer the margins turn chartreuse and centres deepen to dark maroon. Leaves are heavily lobed and remain evergreen almost all year round. In June and July rise 40-45 cm tall, thin stems producing tiny white flowers. Bred by Janet Egger from Terra Nova® Nurseries in Oregon, USA, and patented as PP22104 in 2011.

Foamy bells do best in neutral to lightly acid, evenly moist soil that is medium fertile to humus-rich, and importantly constantly moist. Dry soil will most probably result in scorched foliage. Full sun or part shade are best, full shade is tolerated while colours may not perform to their best. Most varieties keep their foliage nice through winter, yet we recommend removing old leaves in order to encourage production of healthy new foliage in spring. Fully hardy to abt. -34°C (USDA zone 4) and can be grown in outdoor pots.
