St. John’s Wort is a well-known perennial from our meadows and fields. The gardeners, however, selected species which are shrubby and have additional features for common use in gardens. MIRACLE® is an enchanted series of a few hybrids producing profusion of multi-coloured berries in autumn. The breeding program started in 2010 and was conducted by a Dutch breeder Wilhelmus T.J. van den Hoogen.
Description of the plant:
MIRACLE® NIGHT St.John's wort is possibly the darkest variety in the MIRACLE® series. Its deciduous, broadly ovate leaves are deep burgundy red all over the insolated parts of the bush. Foliage hidden from the sun remains dark green. From late June open 2-3 cm wide, rich orange blossoms that are followed by deep burgundy red, almost black, glossy, inedible berries. It has extended blooming season owing to which the plant keeps on producing flowers in the midst of numerous berries. The plant forms dense shrubs with profusion of flowers and berries.The best way to prune it is back pruning to 5-10 cm above ground. Grow these smaller hypericums in full sun, moderately fertile soil that is very well drained. Thanks to smaller size it is also ideal for a rockery. Fully hardy to about -24°C (USDA zone 6).
