Wichita Blue is a compact Rocky Mountains juniper with soft needles and amazing colour. It bears scale-like, bright steel-blue needles lying flat to the branches. It is evergreen and in winter lightens its colour to almost silver. Like most other junipers it has its typical scent, and unlike many other junipers this one is very pleasant to touch because it is not prickly.Description of the plant:
Wichita Blue juniper grows slowly into a compact, upright, conical, and very bushy habit, reaching about 2-3m tall in gardens and possibly twice or three times as much in open areas. It produces small, pea-like fruit of silvery blue-grey colour.Junipers will grow in almost any reasonably drained soil of any pH. Once established it needs no maintenance or watering. In fact it can take long periods of droughts and strong winds. Pruning, if necessary, can be made in early spring or late summer. Fully hardy to about -40°C (USDA zone 3).
