Some cottage gardens lovers are great objectors when it comes to hybridized plants in rural landscapes. Their objection is that these plants are often so manipulated that their appearance simply clashes with the neat and humble species. I agree. But only in case of strictly come cottage. Though, for example double flowers are often a work of nature, not a breeder. As in the case of this Shasta daisy. It is partly a hybrid but the double flowers were a natural mutation that was just used by a breeder to grow a strong plant with showy flowers.
Description of the plant:
Snowdrift is a Shasta daisy with cream white, semi-double flowers. Its ray florets are narrow and their colour is more yellow towards the centre and fade to creamy white and almost white at tips. The centres are yellow. Snowdrift exhibits lush foliage formed in a dense clump at the ground, not elevating much. The leaves are dark green, partly glossy, inversely lance-shaped, and distinctly serrated at margins. Flowers appear on about 40 cm tall stems from midsummer until the last warm and sunny days of autumn. Our plants still bloom prolifically in early October. Deadheading is always suggested, however, not necessary with this beauty.

Shasta daisy is widely soil adaptable provided the soil is evenly moist but well-drained. Still, we recommend growing it in humus-rich soil where the number of flowers and overall plant appearance will be better. Fully hardy to about -30°C (USDA zone 5).
