Liriodendron

The species of tulip tree or yellow poplar is a popular tree for large areas - parks and arboretums. Not many gardens can accommodate such a giant. However, in 1995 a new mutation (witch's broom) was discovered by Lucjan Gursztyn in Poland, and it proved to be a slow growing version. It was named by the founder of Gursztyn Nursery in Branievo - Edward Gursztyn.
Description of the plant:
Edward Gursztyn is a compact or almost dwarf variety of yellow poplar. It makes a uniform, rounded canopy and very hadsome, typical saddle-shaped leaves. They are deciduous, green in summer and yellow in autumn. No flowers have been observed so far. It needs no pruning for a nice shape but ou can trim it in early spring. Its height depends on the stem size it was grafted on. The crown reaches about 2m wide and a little less tall.

Yellow poplar needs the same type of soil and care like magnolias: evenly moist soil but well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil. Grow it in full sun only. It is usually pest and disease free. Provide a good support for young trees until they establish (3-4 years). Fully hardy to about -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
