Description of the plant:
Compact and dwarf forms are becoming more and more popular thanks to newly built houses on plots that are growing smaller and smaller. Not a long time ago we registered a success with columnar forms of apple trees, now we are introducing a columnar variety of a crabapple.
Bohemia Royal Obelisk is a beautiful Czech variety of fastigate crabapple. It makes large, deep wine-red, almost black, glossy leaves which emerge rich purple red and turn various colours in autumn: golden, orange, scarlet red, and wine red. In early May open large, rosy pink, fragrant flowers, followed by quite large, inedible apples with purple red skin. Habit is narrowly columnar with good branching. Pruning is commonly not needed but can be done in frost-free periods of second half of winter.

Apple trees and crabapples will grow in most soils but do best in well-drained but evenly moist, fertile, preferably acid soil for best autumn colours. When planting it, make sure the root-ball is well soaked with water. Fully hardy to about -29°C (USDA zone 5).
