Description of the plant:
This is probably the earliest apple in our climate, of Russian origin from around 1800. Its name is different in every country, the English name is White Transparent. It produces good crops of medium-large to large fruit with greenish-yellow, soft skin and very juicy flesh that can be quite sharp for some but definitely sought after by children who thoroughly enjoy eating the very first apple off the tree in the season. It ripens from end July and cannot be stored.

Another advantage besides being early is that it is partially self-fertile so if you are happy with a normal crop of apples you needn’t worry about looking for a pollinator. Still, should you need a heavy crop these are some of the best known suitable varieties: Idared, Polka or Opal. Pruning is essential if your tree should last long and produce good-sized and tasty apples by reducing last year’s growths to minimum in late winter. Extremely hardy to min. -30°C (USDA zone 5), possibly more.
