Description of the plant:
Royal Gala is one of the most popular apples around the world. It comes from New Zealand and is a result of crossing Golden Delicious and Cox’s Orange Pippin from the 1970´s.These apples are very attractive – red with orange yellow stripes. They are sweet and juicy and aromatic. They are best eaten fresh. Royal Gala belongs to snack apples rather than apples for cooking. They come to maturity in mid to late autumn and store well until end of winter though they may lack taste later.
Apple trees should be pruned in mid-winter. Remove vertical branches and shorten side branches. Fruiting wood is mostly horizontal.
Royal Gala is a partially self-fertile variety and a good cropper but with a pollinator nearby the yield is substantially multiplied. Good pollinators are: Fuji, Granny Smith, James Grieve, Jonathan, Rubinette, Spartan a Starking. Mildew resistant, fully hardy.
