Description of the plant:
Reine des Reinettes (King of the Pippins, Goldparmäne) is a mid-season apple with golden-orange skin, with profusion of red stripes. It is medium-sized, rounded, and can be picked from September until October, and stores well approximately until Christmas time. The flesh is juicy, delicious and very sweet, yet keeping some acidity which gives the apple a fresh taste. It is best eaten off the tree or kept in the refridgerator for 2-3 weeks. It stores well until late December but looses its eating quality after long storage. This variety is partially self-fertile but will surely benefit from a pollinator nearby for good crop. These varieties can do the job: Elstar, Golden Delicious, Gala, Granny Smith, James Grieve, Jonathan, Melrose, Pinova, Rubinola, Spartan, Starking nebo Topaz.
Apple trees should be pruned in frost-free periods of mid to late winter. Remove vertical branches and shorten side branches. Fruiting wood is mostly horizontal. Cultivation is best in full sun, in evenly moist but not wet soil. Fresh winds will not do any harm to them. It is fully hardy.
