Description of the plant:
Cabaret is a variety name of this miscanthus (eulalia). Like a glamorous cabaret dancer this grass is nonetheless showy with its arching, wide leaves with white strips. It grows quite tall – around 2m, and in late summer and early fall produces spikes of glossy, tan flowers which turn creamy beige before winter, and provide interest until spring when the whole clump is pruned back. Eulalia does not tend to be invasive. It is best grown in sunny and warm areas, in almost any well-drained soil with only occasional watering in summer. It hates boggy soil quite surprisingly copes well with heavy clay unless its roots stand in water before they establish. It is recommended to tie up the leaves before winter and cut the clump back in early spring, about 10-20 cm above ground level. Fully hardy to about -29°C (USDA zone 5).
