Description of the plant:
Malepartus is a robust eulalia variety with striking foliage and flowers. The leaves are wide, rich green with a prominent white midrib, turning orange in autumn. Flowers are produced from late July and are held high above the foliage. They come out maroon red and turn soft beige in autumn when they open wide like a pampas grass, and even silvery white in winter. Malepartus is one of the most striking eulalias for winter season.

Eulalia does not tend to be invasive here. It is best grown in sunny and warm areas, in almost any well-drained soil with only occasional watering in summer. It hates boggy soil quite surprisingly copes well with heavy clay unless its roots stand in water before they establish. It is recommended to tie up the leaves before winter and cut the clump back in early spring, about 10-20 cm above ground level. This variety is very hardy, it can withstand temperatures down to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
