Chinese fountain grass is an elegant feature to every garden. It has mid to dark green, linear, flat leaves growing in a thick cluster forming a shape of a fountain. From midsummer it produces spike-like flowers which look like bottlebrushes. Individual varieties differ by flower colour, plant size or habit, and sometimes also foliage colour, especially its autumn shade.Description of the plant:
Little Bunny is a dwarf selection of fountain grass producing compact, low clumps with only about 40 cm tall foliage. In midsummer rise slightly taller stems with 10-15 cm long, light green to pale beige spikes with purple brown anthers. Unlike Hameln variety, flowers of Little Bunny are arranged well above the foliage level allowing the inflorescence play the main role in late summer. Leaves are luxuriant green, arching, and create a soft, relaxed feeling. In autumn they turn golden yellow. Little Bunny is a small plant and in order to have a large clump planting a nest of 3-5 plants is recommended. Fountain grass is best grown in sunny and warm areas, in well-drained but evenly moist soil. This grass is not drought tolerant and without sufficient moisture it will dry out or will not produce flowers. Little Bunny does not require to be tied up before winter, just cut back all leaves and stems just above ground level in early spring. Hardy to about -27°C (USDA zone 5b).
