Moss phlox is a hardy and reliable, usually evergreen perennial used mostly in rockeries and to cover low walls, where it makes a fantastic carpet of white, pink, red, purple, mauve or blue flowers in mid spring. Many varieties are available in the market today and being quite similar they sometimes get difficult to differentiate among one another, yet each one has its tell.Description of the plant:
MacDaniel's Cushion is possibly the top favourite rich pink variety of moss phlox. Its flowers are rich neon pink and open from late April on dense, emerald green cushions of evergreen leaves. It is quite compact, however, for good habit and in order to eliminate bare, woody stems we recommend trimming it in early summer just after flowering.Grow moss phlox in full sun and free-draining soil of any pH. Once established they take long periods of droughts. Mulching is not necessary but covering the soil around the main clump with weed control fabric is advisable to keep the area around the plant weed-free. It is very hardy to about -45°C (USDA zone 2).
