Description of the plant:
Globosa Austrian pine is a dwarf variety of this conifer which is unique for its slow growth and globular shape as well as much smaller ultimate size compared to the species. It has very long, slightly twisted needles of rich green colour. In midsummer it produces a new portion of needles which do not have enough time to mature. So they remain short like bristles, as if stuck half way through. This unusual tufty effect decorates the plant until spring the following year when the plant starts making new needles again.

It grows slowly. Its ultimate size in maturity varies significantly with every seedling. On average it is supposed to reach anything between 2 and 4 meters. It will look great as a small lawn specimen, or will be a perfect piece in a Japanese garden, or a large rockery surrounded by stones, white sand or pebbles. It can be grown in a large outdoor container, too. Pines need full sun and well-drained soil that will not be too alkaline, no fertilizing required. Fully hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4).
