Pinus sylvestris 'WATERERI' dwarf Scotch pine

Watereri is a small, slow-growing pine which is also commercially known under the name “Nana” – a typical name for many dwarf plants. Its needles are borne in pairs, dark green with only a hint of blue-green in summer, and more bluish in cold months of autumn and winter. It is very popular among gardeners as well as amateurs because it does not grow more than 3-4 meters in full maturity and requires zero maintenance.

The shape is conical and it grows very dense. Unlike the species it does not lose needles on bottom branches. The flaking-off bark is grey-brown, changing to orange-red with age as it flakes off. Thanks to its slow growth it is often grown as half-standard tree with a compact crown.

Scots pines belong to the hardiest and easy-to-grow pines ever. They tolerate cold, wind, sun and drought, poor soils, air-pollution, they just do not take water-logged location. However, if you want to have a beautiful plant we recommend mixing your soil half and half with peat. If you mulch it it will keep most of its needles and healthy, fresh colour. Fully hardy to min. -45°C (USDA zone 2).
