Potentilla fruticosa 'ABBOTSWOOD' cinquefoil

Abbotswood is an older and proven variety of cinquefoil. It produces masses or 3 cm wide, snow white flowers from late May until early July, and then repeats flowering in several flushes until late August or even mid September during warm and sunny conditions of late summer. Palmately divided leaves are small, medium green to glaucous blue-green, not very showy. It grows somewhat faster compared to modern varieties, a little less than a meter tall, and in order to create a nice looking shrub don’t be afraid to trim it lightly or moderately every spring. Thanks to very little care needed and high resistance to whims of weather, pests, and diseases it is ideal for low maintenance gardens.

Cinquefoil grows best in well-drained, poor or moderately fertile soil in full sun. Fast and large growing varieties can be trimmed in early spring. It does not need extra fertilizing or watering once established, though a good selective fertilizer may enhance continuous production of new flower buds. It is fully hardy to abt. -40°C (USDA zone 3), and suitable for outdoor pots down to zone 5, just do not let them dry out completely.
