Description of the plant:
Safir® is a self-fertile variety of sour cherry. It produces quite large (6-8 g), dark red and glossy, freestone fruit which matures from mid July. The taste is well balanced between sweet and sour. The tree is rather slow growing, compact and densely branched, and requires no pruning. It is early to start producing good amount of fruit. It is a cross between Schattenmorelle and Fanal from Germany and is resistant to moniliosis.Being self-fertile it requires no pollination partner. Grow it in well-drained, preferably acidic and fertile soil in full sun. It will benefit from extra watering during dry spells from spring to early summer before the fruit turns red. It is tolerant of partial shade. Hardy to min. -29°C.
