Description of the plant:
ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT® is a low-growing rose listed among ground-covering varieties, but fortunately, it does not create those typical tangles of thorny branches just above the ground from which fallen leaves cannot be cleaned in autumn without ending up with scratched hands. It produces short shoots about 40 cm tall and makes small, vibrant red, single flowers that bloom repeatedly from June to October. The flowers are 5-6 cm in diameter and are not fragrant. If you do not deadhead, it will yield many attractive rose hips. As a ground cover, plant 5 pieces per square meter.

It is part of the Nectar Garden® series, which includes varieties that provide excellent food source for bees, bumblebees, butterflies, and hoverflies. This is not only due to their abundant flowering but also because they are healthy and do not require chemical treatments, which makes them friendly to all winged life in your garden. ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT® is perfectly resistant to blackspot and in good conditions it does not suffer from mildew or rust either. It can also be grown in partial shade. Bred in 2009, it was introduced only in 2018 by the Kordes Rosen nursery from Germany. Hardy to about -29 °C (USDA zone 5) and suitable for outdoor planters.

Planting instructions: Prepare a hole of size 30x30 cm. Put your rose in the way that the grafting point is 3 cm deep in the soil. Water well and cover new shoots with soil or bark mulch about 15 cm high. Roses tolerate wide range of soils but thrive in deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, in full sun.

Pruning: Cut the branches in half in autumn and prune hard to 3-5 live buds in spring after danger of frosts. During the flowering season prune flowered stems regularly and follow a regular feeding programme.
