Veronica gentianoides 'TISSINGTON WHITE' gentian speedwell

Veronica
Gentian speedwell comes from the Middle East (Turkey, Caucasus) where it inhabits not only scarce woodlands but also exposed mountainous locations which are prone to all sorts of weather whims: drought, summer heat, winter cold, frequent winds etc. Its seeds germinate in such limited spaces as moist crevices between cracked stones and yet rise to a beautiful perennial with handsome evergreen foliage and gentian-like flowers. The species may rise to almost 80 cm in height in full bloom. In gardens, however, much lower growing varieties are cultivated. This speedwell is not demanding regarding soil type provided it is well-drained. However, in the wild, you can find it thrive in damp sites, too, but only if it germinates there itself - it is not possible to transplant an adult plant that was used to different conditions to such environment. It is best suited to poor or moderately fertile, free-draining soil, preferably alkaline to neutral, which will not dry out too much. Full sun is best but it also grows in partial shade. More frequent watering in dry summers will ensure healthier growth. Fully hardy to incredible -42 ° C (USDA zone 2).
