Description of the plant:
Sunny Princess is a compact weigela variety with variegated foliage and pink flowers. Its deciduous leaves are broadly elliptic, acuminate, rich green in the centre and margined golden yellow. Flowers are funnel-shaped, clear pink and come out from mid to late spring. Another interesting feature about Sunny Princess weigela is the colour of young twigs: rich burgundy red as on e.g. Red Prince weigela. It grows moderately, not exceeding much more than about a meter tall and wide. Weigelas thrive in semi-fertile, slightly moist soil, preferably in full sun. They can take heavy and compacted soil, too, but will need more time to grow nice. Pruning: remove flowering branches right after flowering by about two thirds in early summer, or prune compact varieties by about a third or half in midsummer. Hardy to approx. -29°C (USDA zone 5) but not suitable for outdoor pots (risk of drying out in winter).
