Description of the plant:
Rumba is a compact weigela variety with extended bloom time. It produces rich purple red, funnel-shaped flowers from early June until September. Leaves are deciduous, broadly elliptic with a pointed tip, rich green in early summer with red margins, and gaining burgundy red hues in late summer. Rumba weigela offers a beautiful autumn colour shifting – rich brown-red with purple red shades. The habit is almost mounding.Weigelas thrive in semi-fertile, slightly moist soil, preferably in full sun. They can take heavy and compacted soil, too, but will need more time to grow nice. Pruning: remove flowering branches right after flowering by about two thirds in early summer, or prune compact varieties by about a third or half in midsummer. Hardy to approx. -29°C (USDA zone 5) but not suitable for outdoor pots (risk of drying out in winter).
