Description of the plant:
Alba is a variety of Japanese wisteria. It has extremely long racemes of pure white flowers that appear in early May along with leaves or after they have emerged. The racemes can be 50-70 cm long and are followed by long seed-pods hiding poisonous seeds. Pinnate leaves look rather exotic and densely cover the plant and its support from the ground level. They are light green.

The support is necessary even for tree forms because the wood of this climber remains very flexible for many years. The plants flower mainly on short spurs so cut back unwanted side branches to 2-3 buds to encourage formation of flowering spurs.

It needs moist, acidic soil. Young plants require a sheltered place, mature plants (and those with a stem) are fully hardy to -29°C (USDA zone 5).
