Description of the plant:
Blue Emperor is another showy variety of dwarf Korean fir. It was introduced by Kenwith Nursery from Devon, UK, in 2002, and boasts exquisite blue-green, glossy needles and dense growth. As every Korean fir this beauty also makes the famous purple blue cones standing erect near the ends of branches in spring and early summer. It is an evergreen conifer which, thanks to its limited size, will fit even a small garden or a patio container.Blue Emperor forms handsome shrubs or small trees of a typical pyramidal shape with one central leader, a true miniature of a Christmas tree, when grown from seeds. When propagated by grafting it often makes a mounding shrub with more terminals. It can be pruned or clipped to desired shapes, however, owing to slow growth you will be grateful for every centimeter it has made.
Korean fir does best in filtered sun, or full sun if grown in equally moist soil that does not dry out on the hottest days of summer. For best results grow it in slightly to very acidic or neutral, well-drained, not compacted soil. It dislikes heavy clay, water-logging, and road salt. It does not mind exposed locations and severe frost. Fully hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5) and suitable for outdoor pots.
