Description of the plant:
Hardy iceplant is a beautiful rock garden perennial from South Africa. It is a low growing succulent with deep green, needle-like, glittering foliage that gains red shades in full sun. From late spring it produces masses of large, daisy-like, bright pink to light purple flowers with yellow centres. It continues blooming until early autumn.

Iceplant is evergreen in milder parts of zone 7, but here its leaves will wither and come back in spring. If you grow it in containers make sure to keep it from winter wet and severe frost. Best place to overwinter potted plants is a cold and dark room with low humidity.

Excess watering could kill this plant. If grown out in the garden make sure the soil is sharply drained so that the plant never stands in water. Place it in full sun only. Sutherland iceplant is the hardiest species that can take winter frost down to USDA zone 6 (-23°C).
