Description of the plant:
Gaura is a typical example of a plant that deserves its price should it come in any pot size. It is a perennial with extra long bloom season and requiring little or no care. Compacta is a newer selection that exhibits very low growth and compact habit. It produces almost white flowers with soft pink veins. They are borne on deep burgundy red stems from June until October. Leaves are deciduous, narrowly lance-shaped, deep burgundy red when they emerge, maturing to dark green. In the wild gaura lives in naturally moist lands where it thrives. Grow it in equally moist but well drained soil in full sun. Once established it tolerates summer drought. The richer soil the more flowers you get so if unsure about your soil quality fertilize it with any common fertilizer for flowering plants when in bloom. If grown in well-drained soil and protected with fir branches in winter it can withstand down to about -25°C (USDA zone 5-6).
