Burkhard Gesenzer family from Switzerland have been involved in breeding fruit trees and shrubs ever since late 19th century, around 1889. Lubera® trademark was initiated by Markus Kobelt from the third generation of this family, and offers a wide range of quality and extraordinary fruit varieties which have either unique taste or colour, disease resistance or reliable fruiting, or possibly all of this together.Description of the plant:
Marilyn® is a ‘luberized’ version of old and popular Golden Delicious apple tree variety with a few improvements. The taste is not just dull and sweet, but juicy and sweet with a hint of pear aroma when fully ripe. The fruit is beautiful, too. It is medium-sized, round, and has pale yellow to golden yellow, almost perfect skin without scab or russets, sometimes with a small pale crimson cheek. Harvest starts very early – from the first decade of September, and apples can be eaten fresh off the tree or stored until late December. It is a slow, weak grower, and usually needs no pruning. Apple trees like medium fertile, well-drained soil and full sun. They cannot grow in compacted, heavy clay or water-logged soil. Being self-sterile it needs another pollinator for heavy crop, such as Cistecke, Elstar, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Golden Reinette, Granny Smith, James Grieve + Red, Kent, Melrose, Opal, Pinova, Rajka, Rubinette, Spartan, Starking a Topaz. Hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5) and suitable for all regions including colder ones.
