Malus domestica 'BOHEMIA GOLD' apple tree - medium late

Bohemia Gold is a Czech midseason apple tree variety, a mutation of Bohemia variety. It is a delicious apple which in my view beats Golden Delicious. The fruit is medium to large (if thinned), rounded, pale yellow early in the season maturing to rich yellow, sometimes with a few scarlet red stripes. The flesh is white, firm, juicy and sweet, almost no acidity yet rich in taste.

It can be harvested from late September until late October, and eaten after 3-4 weeks of storing or fresh off the tree in late October when sugars have developed. Flowers and fruits are formed on long branches so pay attention to pruning if you need to cut it. It is fully resistant to powdery mildew and reasonably resistant to scab.

Apple trees will grow in almost any well-drained soil but for best results provide them with deep, fertile soil and keep it moist at least 6 months after transplanting, and in early summer when fruit is formed. Bohemia Gold apple tree grows rather fast when young, slowing down soon after it begins setting fruit. Being self-sterile it needs another pollinator for heavy crop, such as Elstar, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Golden Reinette, Granny Smith, Melrose, Opal, Pinova, Rajka, Rubinola, Spartan, Starking, and Topaz. Pruning can be done in frost-free periods of winter but it benefits from being left to its own devices. Hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5) and suitable for all regions including colder ones.
