Malus domestica 'SUMMERRED' apple tree - early

Summerred is very resistant to powdery mildew but prone to scab and cancer in large orchards and cold, wet grounds. In private gardens they are usually healthy without a need for protection. Trees are very hardy in wood as well as in bud and can cope with almost all soil conditions and locations including cold regions. Yields are high.
Apple trees will grow in almost any well-drained soil but for best results provide them with deep, fertile soil and keep it moist at least 6 months after transplanting, and in early summer when fruit is formed. Being self-sterile it needs another pollinator for heavy crop, such as Alkmene, Antonovka, Čistecké, Idared, James Grieve, Korobovka, Linda, Polka, Red Devil a Violette. Pruning can be done in frost-free periods of winter but it benefits from being left to its own devices. Very hardy to abt. -34 °C (USDA zone 4).
