Cinquefoil is a popular plant in gardens of various sizes and is often found in city parks and arboretums. They have several flower colours and thanks to zero maintenance they can be planted almost anywhere. There have been quite a few attempts to achieve a variety with rich colours other than yellow, and this novelty from 2014 called DANNY BOY® is eventually the one where you can rely on the colour strength. It was found as a chance seedling by Chris Sanders in his garden in Eccleshall, Stafford, United Kingdom, in 2007, and patented as PP27333 in 2014. In the same year it was also awarded Bronze Medal at Plantarium in Dutch Boskoop, a prestigious exhibition of new plants.
Description of the plant:
DANNY BOY® cinquefoil produces 2-3 cm wide flowers of the richest pink, almost red colour you have not yet seen on any other variety. As a bonus the centres are decorated with shiny yellow stamens. Flowers appear from about mid May and continue until September. Palmately divided leaves are small, medium green, not very showy. DANNY BOY® forms dense and compact plants, however, it is not dwarf. You can expect a mature size of about 50x80 cm. Pruning is possible in early spring. Thanks to very little care needed and high resistance to whims of weather, pests, and diseases it is ideal for low maintenance gardens.

Cinquefoil grows best in well-drained, poor or moderately fertile soil in full sun. Fast and large growing varieties can be trimmed in early spring. It does not need extra fertilizing or watering once established, though a good selective fertilizer may enhance continuous production of new flower buds. It is fully hardy to abt. -40°C (USDA zone 3), and suitable for outdoor pots down to zone 5, just do not let them dry out completely.
