Prunus domestica 'PRESENTA'® plum tree - late

Presenta® is a modern variety of self-fertile plum tree resistant to sharka virus. It produces very tasty and sweet fruit that is currently the sweetest that can be found on the table of accepted varieties. Owing to this it is best suited for preserves and eating right off the tree. The skin is dark violet-purple. The fruit remains firm even fully ripe and can be kept longest of most plums.

Presenta® plum is a late variety maturing in late September or early October. This is a key feature telling us how to treat it as far as growing location. Place it in full sun for all day long and avoid frost pockets or cold slopes. This tree is not suitable for elevated regions – its fruit would not finish maturing and would be rather a disappointment. On the other had after a long vegetation season it will yield excellent freestone fruit. It is self-fertile and requires no pollinator. Presenta® flowers show good resistance to frost.

Plum trees like fertile, well-drained, moderately moist but never wet soil. On dry summers watering is essential during the fruit formation. They are taller than for example peach trees but can easily be kept smaller by pruning in spring, best done after flowering. Reduce long shoots by a third and remove all thin and weak branches. Still, after developing a strong and symmetrical crown trees should be left to their own devices. It is fully hardy to min. -29°C (USDA zone 5).
