TerraNova® Nurseries from Oregon is a leading breeder of beautiful orpine varieties in the USA. In late 2016 its list shows 25 plants and Class Act is one of them, bred by Gary J.Gossett, and patented as PP20125 in 2009.
Description of the plant:
Class Act orpine is a winner among purple-pink flowering orpines. It is a cross between sedum spectabile 'Brilliant' and unregistered selection sedum telephium dark leaf. The result is a compact and very bushy plant of rather low habit and extremely profuse flowering. The umbrella-shaped inflorescences are large and perfectly cover the plant when blooming in August and September. Individual, star-shaped flowers are a deep purple pink colour which lasts and darkens towards the end of blooming. Flower buds are very light pink, almost white. Leaves are rounded, pale pea green, thick, with a narrow purple red margin especially on young foliage. Sterile. Leave the spent flowers on the plant, they are especially pretty in winter when covered with soft rime or snow.

Orpines are perfect plants for autumn borders. They add extra colour on an architecturally interesting plant. These perennials are easy to grow, they will like almost any well-drained soil, they do well in rockeries and outdoor pots (without saucer). Cut them back in early spring but be careful not to damage young buds at the ground. Let them dry out before next watering - excess water brings a danger of fungi diseases. Avoid CHEMICAL SPRAYS with this variety. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
