Description of the plant:
Monier’s Alpine betony is an outstanding species of this interesting perennial. Most of other betonies are grown for attractive foliage, however, Hummelo is a special variety that offers not only pretty foliage but also lovely flowers. They are formed in spikes of lilac pink flowers, borne on 30-40 cm tall stems from early summer until midsummer, or longer if properly deadheaded. There is no fragrance for humans but their nectar attracts bees and later butterflies. Thanks to its bold foliage and inflorescence it is rated the most attractive betony altogether.

Alpine betony comes from dry, chalky, sunny slopes of the Alps and it will grow in similar environment in the garden. The soil does not need to be fertile but well-drained as it dislikes excess winter wet. Make sure it gets full sun to form a nice and compact clump. Hardy to about -29°C (USDA zone 5).
