Description of the plant:
Eveline is a new variety of speedwell from the Netherlands patented in 2003. It produces attractive, approximately 30 cm tall spikes of rich lilac to violet flowers from early summer. If regularly deadheaded it can continue blooming until late summer. Leaves are long, narrowly lanceolate, serrated at margins, mid green. They help the plant look quite bushy and dense. Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. The flowers are excellent for cutting, and if you cut them just when the upper third of the spike has not opened its buds, the plant in the ground should have enough time to produce new stems with shorter spikes in late summer. Hardy to about -30°C (USDA zone 5), possibly a little bit more.
