Description of the plant:
After a big success with FIRST LOVE® speedwell Dutch breeder Wilhelmus van den Hoogen continues in his romantic series and in 2017 introduces another variety called FIRST KISS®. Because its flowers are as sweet pink as the taste of the first kiss which WAS sweet and we all remember it for our entire life, isn’t that right? The spike-like inflorescence is taller than on the previous variety, reaching some 15-17 cm, and is composed of 500(!) tiny, pastel pink flowers. Who the hack had time to count them? They come out from mid June for about 3 weeks atop 50-60 cm tall stems, and then, if deadheaded, new flowers are produced from the lower parts of the stems until September. Leaves are broadly lanceolate, serrated at margins, deep green. FIRST KISS® was patented as PP28797 in 2017.
Speedwell will grow in any moist but well-drained, reasonably fertile soil, preferably in full sun but partial shade will do no harm. Hardy to about -34°C (USDA zone 4), and will grow well in a container, too, where the soil should never dry out.
