Leucanthemum 'GOLDFINCH' Shasta daisy

Goldfinch Shasta Daisy is another superb invention made by young breeder Harini Korlipara of Terra Nova Nurseries, USA. She made further cross of unnamed seedlings of Shasta daisy hybrids leucanthemum x superbum. The result is a breathtaking yellow never seen so far in trade. Goldfinch bears rich banana yellow flowers that turn pale yellow or ivory as they age. The ray florets have divided tips which gives a somewhat impish appearance. They appear from July until August on about 40-50 cm tall stems. Basal leaves are quite long for a Shasta daisy: 15-20 cm. They are dark green, partly glossy, inversely lance-shaped, and serrated at margins. Leaves along the stems are short and inconspicuous. Patented in 2012 under PP24,499.

Shasta daisy is widely soil adaptable provided the soil is evenly moist but well-drained. Still, we recommend growing it in humus-rich soil where the number of flowers and overall plant appearance will be better. It is commonly disease resistant but slugs become a problem when they find it since they love it. Make sure they stay away from this beauty, otherwise they can eat the entire plant leaving bare stems in the bed. Fully hardy to about -30°C (USDA zone 5).
