Malus domestica 'JAMES GRIEVE' apple tree - midseason

James Grieve is an old and proved, very tasting variety of a midseason apple tree from Scotland from 1893. The apples are medium to large, juicy and sweet, and are great eaten fresh off the tree, yet a little sharp. Sweetness rises only after one week of cold storage. It generally does not store well in common cellars, however, in under professional storage conditions it may last ontil late winter.

It is partial self-fertile but will significantly benefit from a pollinator nearby, i.e. Antonovka, Čistecké, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Zlatá reneta, Granny Smith, Idared, Kent, Opal, Melrose, Rajka, Red Delicious, Rubinette, Rubinola, Spartan, Starking nebo Topaz.

If you need to prune apple trees do so in mid-winter. Remove vertical branches and shorten side branches. Fruiting wood is mostly horizontal. Most apple trees are sterile and need another apple variety for pollination. This pollinator can be in the same neighborhood, no need to have it in the same garden. It is fully hardy.
