Description of the plant:
Brise d'Anjou is a Jacob's ladder variety from France from around 1995. It was found by Maurice and Rene Proteau in Brissac-Quince (west of France, about 100 km from Nantes) as a naturally occurring mutation of the species. Looking at its striking variegated foliage I think the name 'Breeze from Anjou' is quite an understatement, it should say a 'Hurricane from Anjou'. Everyone looks down at this plant, that much attention it draws. It is the only known variegated form of Jacob's ladder so far that is also valued for originating naturally, not as an x-rayed genetic mutation. It was patented as PP9781 in 1997 (now expired).Brise d'Anjou Jacob's ladder boasts beautiful foliage and extended flowering period. Its yarrow-like leaves are pinnate and resemble a ladder hence its common name. They are heavily variegated like a zebra with pale butter yellow colour. From Late May rise 40-60 cm tall stems which bear clusters of many violet blue flowers like a sky before a storm. They come out in profusion but one by one which extends its blooming time until September. It is the only variety we ever saw bloom continuously without a need to cut the clump down after the main flowering phase.
Jacob’s ladder is a low maintenance plant that loves fertile and evenly moist soil. It will grow in soil of any pH, in full sun or partial shade, it can even live in full shade but will not make a neat clump there. Hardy to about -34°C and suitable for outdoor pots.
