Description of the plant:
Purple Rain is a variety of Jacob’s ladder that is native to the northern parts of Japan, precisely Hokkaidó island, formerly known as Ezo (Yezo). It produces upright, fleshy, purple black stems bearing tender blossoms of blue-violet colour with rich yellow pistils. The flower looks like a 2000’s businessman in a blue shirt with a yellow tie. Ferny foliage adds an extra feature to this perennial and even after the flowers have gone the plant makes a nice mound of attractive leaves. They are rich green with purple hues in summer. Jacob’s ladder is a low maintenance plant that loves fertile and evenly moist soil. It will grow in soil of any pH, in full sun or partial shade, it can even live in full shade but will not make a neat clump there. Hardy to about -30°C.
